I'll start off with my personal favourite, which to me, somes up what modern quilting is all about
Winner of contemporary quilts:

Dear Jane, It's the 21st Centuary.
Valerie Mullally, Kells, Ireland
"An awareness of changing times now that my 3 boys are at university."
Apologies for the lack of quality, it was a rare moment that someone wasnt standing close to this one, so I had to take my pictures fast!
Here's a close up:

This one is made entirely of tiny hexies:

Its not in my competition catalogue but it says Billie Joe Armstrong. Perhaps it was a late entry?
These are some mini quilts and I had to take this photo for scale purposes.

See number 802 - that teeny tiny one on the left?

Carin Saga, Tokyo,Japan
Can't Go Any Crazier
measures 1" x 1
How on earth???
This one made me laugh out loud. Any one who knows the advert will appreciate this!

I loved reading the free motion quilted emails on this one:

Judith Carol Lynch
Living Adventurously
"Its commemorates my son Nick's gap year travels. The text comes from emails he sent home over 6 months"
This trapunto peice was just fantastic:

The blue background is teeny tiny stippling:

Blue like Wedgewood
Kumiko Frydl Texas USA
"To take time off from tiny piecing I made white trapunto on blue fabric to resemble Wedgewood"
Those were just some of the amazing quilt, but there were loads more photos. I spent a fortune but didnt buy any fabric, Im so good!!
:-)

ReplyDeleteI can't believe that one of Billie Joe Armstrong, made up of little hexies! I'm amazed and impressed by peoples creativity!!!
ReplyDeletelove love love this post! Wish I could have been there - can't wait to see your pics of Stefano, Katy's top, Mandy looking bemused and Ann hiding her quilts - LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteWow! What an eclectic collection of amazing quilts. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing collection! Wish I could have seen it. Thank you for posting all the pictures
ReplyDeletelovely post ... thank you for taking us there :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the pictures...I quite like the variation of the Dear Jane...a sign of the times indeed.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'm going to make the Festival this year...
I was a bit surprised to see the no rucksack thing in the brochure...surely that is going to encourage people to use those horrid ankle biters (bags on trolleys). LOL
Hello I was there too and had a great day. Cant decide which one was my favourite. Did you see the once of the naked lady with writing all over her that was amazing. Nice to find your blog - I was trying to find out more about Nick Lynch but I found you.
ReplyDeleteWonderfull show, fantastic work, lots more seating and general space - too many tempting traders - returned almost pennyless, just no will power, perhaps I will get some sewing done before next Festival. Tentmakers of Cario just fantastic and the speed in which they work is amazing.
ReplyDeleteI also had a backpack - what's the point of banning something but not telling you till you get there? Never mind everything else was great!
ReplyDeleteThat quilt with the mini hexies was amazing!
