Little things

This year I have made a list of all those little things I wanted to make that I didn't get around to making last year, so I can strike these two off my list.  The last time I did embroidery I think I was 8 years old and I know my eyesight was a lot better. (that makes me sound old!)  I forgot how precise you need to be with your stitches , one wrong stitch and you have to start all over again.  Here is a close up:

I really enjoyed the process and I would love to tackle the ABC sampler that I saw so much last year.  It looks like the perfect project to make whilst watching the t.v.

Another little project I have finally completed is this lovely little lamb, taken from the book I love patchwork.

Exiting news..

 

I'm exited.  It's completly non fabric related but as my favourite film of all time is the Wizard of Oz, I couldn't not mention its prequel which will be released in March!!. Oz- the great and powerful. Starring Michelle Williams as Glinda and Mila Kunis as Theodora. Catch the trailor here. Im super exited! Oh and just so this post dosn't go out without some pictures.  I'll show these new pen rolls I made as part of a Christmas present for the kids. Their old ones were worn out, but they got so much use out of them, I new they would be a appreciated.

 

Incase you are wondering, the pens inside them are just about THE best kids pens I've ever purchased. They are actually a re-purchase, the previous pens lasted a whole year, and coped with being used almost every day which, as anyone with super crafty kids knows, is very very good longevity wise.

They have a paint brush type nib at one end with fine tip at the opposite end. I can't recommend them highly enough. They are made by a company called Djeco (who also make some gorgeous crafty toys for children.)

They have a classic set and a girls set. I purchased one of each for both kids as Jacob loves using the skin and pastel colours on his drawings too. They can be purchased here.

Happy New Year!

It's been a while hasn't it?...let's catch up...


At the start of December we welcomed a new guest into our home. Our very own house elf. He arrived with a book that explained that we needed to name him, and a delightful poem explaining what he was here to do.

His purpose was to keep an eye on the children throughout the day, listen to everything they do, and each night, fly off to the north pole and report their behavior to Father Christmas. Upon his return he would move to a different spot in the house and would often get up to mischief in the process.

After reading the book and watching the DVD the kids had decided to name him Eddie. Eddie stayed with us from December the 1st until Christmas Eve when he would fly back to the North Pole to help santa with his final preperations before Christmas day.

 

 

The children would wake up in the morning, get dressed, and rush down the stairs to see where he would be.(Avoiding all arguments about getting up and dressed in the morning!)The only rule (apart from behaving well) was that they wern't allowed to touch Eddie or he would loose his magic, which wasnt a huge problem for my six year old but my four year old found himself writing a letter of apology to Santa and Eddie for being so forgetful. :-).

 

Eddie was a real highlight of our December, keeping the kids in check when they fell out with each other and entertaining us with his naughty, cheeky little ways.

Christmas Eve was hectic. I don't know what got into me but I had this urge to do a project that I had meant to do during the year but hadnt got around to, so I ended up making this drawstring bag to hold all of my felt.

Christmas day was wonderful. The kids enjoyed a day full of family time, music, gifts and lovely food.

My husband and I decided not to exchange gifts but I did buy myself a gift back in October that I had wanted since last Christmas and had saved all year for - A Cannon EOS 600D. smiles all round :-)

That brings me back to the First picture which is the pillow I have made for Mothers day for my mum. I received the pattern last Christmas so it was about time I had at least finished one of the pillows I had started.

and Im really proud to say that after 2 years of wanting to try a"proper" free motion quilting design I finally plucked up the courage - here is a close up:

I was really pleased with how it all went, seeing as I only took part in the free motion quilting challange for a few months of the year, the practice really paid off, don't get me wrong it's not perfect by any stretch, but its better then I thought it would be.
